RODNEY STRONG VINEYARDS

Davis Bynum

Refreshing a respected range

As one of California’s premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers, Davis Bynum Winery has a respected following amongst wine enthusiasts. Part of the Rodney Strong Vineyards stable, Davis Bynum Wines was established in the early 1970s in the Russian River Valley area of Sonoma County. Forty years later, this extraordinary terroir is celebrated as one the most famous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay growing regions — and Davis Bynum Winery continues as a pioneer.

Already recognized as a premium brand with strong packaging, and resonating with consumers and select retail channels, Tucker Branding was asked to undertake an update of the Davis Bynum labels to reflect Davis Bynum’s existing Clone range offering. The look and feel of the current design needed to be incorporated into the Core Tier to give it more presence on shelf and increase off-premise sales. And while the earthy tones of the previous Core Tier packaging had worked well, the client felt the colors were a bit too recessive and required review.

While maintaining the integrity of the previous design, we explored color and tone options, metallic inks and foils for the branding, varietal hand-lettered font options to increase the legibility, capsule colors, and the prominence and placement of the Clone designation.

The resulting wine packaging exhibits a consistent look and feel across the entire Davis Bynum range and features elevated design cues reflective of the wine’s price point. The brand communication also provided inspiration for key collateral components including brochure and tasting card.
